Embroidery Stabilizers

Embroidery Stabilizer/Backing is the foundation of your embroidery and is a necessity to support your fabric and thread. Without the use of the proper stabilizer, the registration of the design may be off, you might have puckering, and your fabric may distort. Your choice of stabilizer can “make or break” your stitch out.

Tearaway Stabilizers

Tearaways are ideal with woven, non-stretch fabrics and are temporary. The fabric becomes stabilized during embroidery and after stitching is completed, the excess stabilizer is torn away from the design. Tearaways are an excellent choice where the backside may be exposed or where the stabilizer may be hard to trim once the design is finished.

Cutaway Stabilizers:

Cutaways are permanent stabilizers that remain on the fabric and keep it stable during and after embroidery. They are an excellent choice for knit fabrics as they prevent the designs from stretching out with frequent wearing and washing. In addition, cutaway stabilizers work well on loosely woven fabrics and on projects that will be mounted into a frame, where visibility of the stabilizer is not an issue.

Weight:

As a rule, the backing's weight should increase as the fabric's weight decreases. It refers to the backing's density not its thickness. Backing weight is expressed in ounces per square yard.
