Epoxy-Sealers-Strippers

Silicone sprays can have a lot of different uses around the printing shop. You can use these sprays to lubricate a range of mechanical equipment, but most importantly, you can use these sprays to prevent your screens from sticking to the ink or adhesives on your pallets. In addition to sprays, there are also silicone epoxy sealer strippers that you can paint onto areas as needed.

Looking at the Benefits of Silicone Sprays

Silicone sprays are easy to use. The small spray bottles conveniently fit into most storage areas, and they tend to last a long time. Once applied, silicone spray dries quickly. If you feel the area after spraying, it typically feels smooth and dry almost immediately. You don't have to worry about a greasy film or pooling silicone.

Using Silicone Spray in Screen Printing

If you have issues with your ink sticking to or gumming up on your screens, you may want to try silicone spray. In particular, this can be an issue with water based ink and tight screens, particularly during a long printing run, but luckily, the silicone spray repairs the issue quickly and easily.

Applying Silicone Spray to Printing Screens

To apply silicone spray to printing screens, use the same technique you would use to spray paint something. As a general rule of thumb, hold the spray about 12 to 18 inches away from the surface. If the manufacturer advises a different distance on the spray can, follow that recommendation instead.

Then, release the spray, and slowly move the silicone spray back and forth over the area you want covered. Work down from the top of the printing screen until you have completed the process. Then, let the silicone dry before using the screens. Re-apply the silicone spray as needed. It can wear off over time.

Helping Silicone Work Better on Printing Screens

In addition to using silicone spray on your printing screens, you may want to try other methods to prevent ink from building up on the back of your screens. Start by looking at the design itself. Some designs are simply more prone to pooling paint. Also ensure that you are keeping the tension of the screen mesh consistent. If the tension shifts during the process, that can also lead to issues.

Make sure you're using the right ink for the job, and only use an underbase when needed. If you find ink sticking to the screens during the flashing process, you may want to use opaque inks so you don't have to worry about flashing, and if you are putting on multiple layers of ink, apply new layers before the ink completely gels so the new layers have something to hold onto. Combined with silicone spray, these tips can help you achieve new levels of success with your printing efforts.

Using Silicone Spray Around the Shop

On top of the above uses, you can also use silicone spray on a range of equipment. Apply it in the same places and in the same way that you would apply lubricant to moving machinery parts.
